Becker Marine Systems (BMS) was originally founded in Hamburg in 1965 by Willi Becker together with his small team of engineers under the name "Willi Becker Ingenierbüro“. At that time the company focused on the developement, design and construction of the Becker flap rudder. In 1971 Becker added further experience and outstanding engineering achievements with the acquisition of the Kort Nozzle patent. This patent combined with the well established Becker skills has provided the shipping world with highly efficient steering solutions to a wide varity of ship types.
In 2002 BMS widened its product range with the introduction of the Automated Material Handling Systems. The AMH System are tailor made to individual ship designs and offer a fast and smooth handling of provisions, luggage or ammunitions without the disturbance or damage caused by manual handling. In March 2003 Becker further strengthened it’s leading position in the global marine market by taking over and enhancing Schilling rudders, located in Poole, Dorset.
Due to Becker Marine System’s continued success in China, a new office was established in Shanghai in November 2003. At the same time the company’s Headquarters in Hamburg were relocated because of the increasing number of staff. In addition to it’s decades-long experience with European partners, Becker signed a co-operation agreement with Chinese Luzhou Machine Works (LMW) in April 2004. This company is a major marine component supplier and an experienced co-operation partner to numerous European and American companies. BMS moved some of it’s rudder system production to LMW in response to the expanding market and opened its own site office in Nanjing in January 2005.
Now globally represented by three country offices and more than 20 country agencies, BMS is the leading trend-setting supplier for manoeuvring and automated handling systems. Today the range of Becker products includes high performance rudders, rudder systems, Kort nozzles and automated material handling systems, designing and providing tailor-made solutions for vessels of any type and size.
